There are two things I noticed whilst travelling to Japan recently. Firstly, the countless amounts of Japanese people falling asleep on trains, benches and on the street. Nobody questions it; nobody helps to wake them up. Falling asleep on the street in Japan is as normal as eating ramen for breakfast. Secondly, the absence of youth. In any other city around the world, you’ll witness street kids running amuck or zealously flirting amongst one another between young boys and girls. I was surprised to say the least that these two insights correlated.
